Hello,

I'm sort of confused why there are two CLI with test studio.  When am I suppose to use which?

It appears I can distribute tests using the command line client but not artoftest runner.  On the other hand the command line client doesn't accept setting overrides.

Why not combine both and get all the features in one common CLI?

Hello David,

Thank you for contacting us regarding the available CLI in Test Studio. I will be happy to assist and advise you if the ArtOfTest.Runner.exe or the CommandLineClient.exe is the better option for you. To do that effectively, please share more details about your requirements, environments and tests that you want to execute on your end.

The CommandLineClient.exe is used to execute test lists remotely, via the existing Scheduling server that you have. This is similar to the Run List Remotely option in Test Studio, which you can find in the Test List tab.

On the other hand, the ArtOfTest.Runner.exe is used to executed tests or test lists locally on the current machine. The results will be outputted n the results folder of the project, unless otherwise specified.

Due to the specifics of the two command line interfaces and what they are used for, we are currently keeping them separate. I can see your point, that there could be 1 common CLI, but that could cause some troubles for existing setups. So, we are not planning to merge them as of now.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again, if you have follow up questions or you need further assistance.
