I am working on justifying the purchase of Test Studio. I'm being asked what the low-hanging fruit is and an estimate of how long it will take to achieve the low-hanging fruit, which will include the installation and configuration with the test runner.

It's the installation / configuration of the test runner I'm asking about. To start off with, we will trigger a run either manually or nightly (no initial integration with builds).

If anyone has some good numbers on this, I would appreciate it. I'm spit-balling it at 40 hours until I hear different.

Hello Terence,

As far as I understand you would like to setup a machine as an Execution server and run Test Studio tests on this one.

If this is the case and you have already some tests prepared, there are two options you can go for. If you want to run the tests nightly (or outside of office hours in general) you can use the machine with Test Studio and set it up  to run scheduled tests on it.

As this could be sufficient while the automation testing project is not too large, at some point you will need to use dedicated machines for running tests on these. Then, you can extend this existing setup with few more Execution machines. The general description of the setup with multiple machines is described here - but if you have started with the first option you already have the services installed and configured and you only need to add execution servers.

Along with the documentation pages on the Test Studio Scheduling, I would like to share few blog posts on the topic, which will shed some light on the setup in practice:

I hope this information will be of further help for you. Of course, if you happen to encounter any difficulties, don't hesitate to get in touch with the Test Studio support team.

Regards,
Elena
