I have telerik test studio edition on one machine(Machine A) , using which I develop all my test cases . Now I have a run time edition on another machine(Machine B) in the same domain.I  configured storage server , scheduling server and started execution server on machine B.

Now i try to access my machine B through run test lists remotely option in machine A. But when ever I click on check button next to machine name option in run lists remotely, it throws an error message as "Service not found". Also attached the screenshot for the same.

Please let me know how i can make use of run time edition as I want to use license edition on my nightly build .So want to try on one test machine before.

Please help me out with this as its highly urgent for me.

Another important question : why its written in the system requirements doc of installation of telerik licenses that " User Account Control" should be set to never notify.

Is it required only for the installation or it has to be like forever. Because my company policy doesn't allow it to be like that for ever.

Thanks in advance

Hi Helga,

The first thing to check for this error is whether or not the firewall on your remote machine is blocking incoming requests. The ports that need to be opened are listed near the bottom of this page.

We highly recommend that UAC be turned off permanently. Either that or the user account being used to run Test Studio tests be a member of the local administrator group for that machine. This allows Test Studio to connect to and control the browser. Anything less than admin level access (turning off UAC effectively makes all users admin's for the box) and Windows will block our connection attempt as a "security threat."

P.S. Public Forum Posts will be answered within 72 business hours by Telerik. We cannot guarantee a faster response time than that.

Thanks Cody for your reply.

I have opened inbound and outbound ports (55555, 8009,8492) of both the systems that I am using. Yes for UAC to be turned off permamnently, I need to check with IT team as i don't think its allowed as per my company policy.

But yes I do have a local admin rights for the machines and still it doesn't allow me to connect to the remote machine so as to run the test list remotely.

And it will be really kind of you if you could let me know if there is any possibility to get my queries answered in short time.

Appreciate your Help

Hi Helga,

If your account, the one you use to log onto your machine, is a member of the local administrator group, it is not necessary to turn UAC off. Doing either one will achieve the same effect that Test Studio requires.

Let's do a basic connectivity test. On your local Test Studio machine open a browser. Navigate to:

http://rwadm72067:8009/documentation/

If the computer name is correct, and our scheduling service is running on that computer, and port 8009 is not blocked you should get a documentation page that looks like the attached screen shot. If you get anything different it means something is not right. It will take further investigation to determine what the problem is.

Let me know what you get and we'll go from there.

Hello Cody,

I have checked the rights , its local admin now and now I could see the VM listed on my Remote Computers list. I could even connect to the Service on this VM. Thanks for this.

But now when i try to execute my test list on the VM(remote machine) , it Shows an error message after some time as "Running Test List Failed internally due to unhandled error" and it keeps on showing the Status bar as "Uploading latest Project files".

I have to manually Close the Run Test list Remotely window through Cross at the right top. I have no idea where I could see the actual error message so that i could debug this issue.

Please see if you could help me with this.

Appreciate your help!

Hi Helga,

Sounds like we are making progress then.

It sounds like there's a problem with the Telerik Storage Server then, which runs as a windows service. Let's start with a basic connectivity test.

1) Open a browser
2) Navigate to the URL http://SchedulingServerAddress:8009/documentation. NOTE: Replace "SchedulingServerAddress" with the name of your remote machine that is running the Telerik Storage Service. This usually is the same machine that is also your Telerik Scheduling Server.

If it's working properly you'll get a response like that shown in the attached screen shot. Let me know if you get something different.

Another diagnostic test to try is to see if you can get to Manage Results. Does this work?

We'll figure out the next step based on those test results.

Hello Cody,

Thanks for your help. I am now able to execute test cases on remote machine but didn't get the success completely.

The test cases run successfully only if my remote machine is not locked , that is i have kept remote machine (Virtual Machine) opened in front of me.

If the remote machine is locked , i always get wait for condition timed out or window, element not found exception.

Please suggest how to resolve this issue.

I tried using "Keep an Active Session Running on Server" when i used to run test cases locally but since now i am running test cases remotely. I am not sure how to use this.

Please help me with this.

Appreciate your help!

Hi Helga,

Because this is a new and unrelated problem, I split it off into a new support ticket, 930014, on your behalf..
