This has happened three times now so I don't think it is just me :) ... WIthin the same project, I will copy and paste a test script and then rename the new version. I open the new version, delete a majority of the test steps and save (call this my "initial version" of the new test script). I then edit the new version extensively, saving several times intermittently, and run a number of times in a test list, both locally and remotely. All good so far. I close TestStudio, do a reboot of my machine and then re-open TestStudio. The test script now matches the "initial version" with all subsequent changes missing. Any idea what is going on?
Your help will be most appreciated! Thanks.

This sounds like a tough to isolate bug but I'd first would like to check if you can download latest Test Studio version. The product version this forum thread relates is from 2014 September which has many bugs fixed in next product releases. The latest official release has been published this January, labeled 2015.3.1314 and you can download from your account or use the Check for Update built-in feature.
If the problem still persists with the latest version please check the application log for any exceptions which can point us to the actual problem. Just clear it then try those actions again and send us the log when/if it happens. A sample project which replicates the problem can help also.

Hi, Konstantin, I am using the most current version. If I can get some spare time, I'll try to reproduce the error and check the application log. Just a thought - would closing the application with the Windows close button ("X" in upper right corner) as opposed to the Test Studio menu's Exit command make a difference?
Briar
I suspect there is some problem on saving the files, but the save operation itself triggers regardless if you close via the Exit or the window X button.

Hi, I was able to repeat the problem reported. The attached log starts right after I copied one test script to another. I saved the new copy and after edits and various saves, I rebooted my computer. After the reboot, the new copy now matches the original it was copied from. So does the "copy of the copy" I made right before rebooting. Your help will be much appreciated! Thanks!

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce such an issue. Probably I am missing something.
Could you please record a short Jing video so we can better understand what are the exact steps.
Thank you!

Boyan,
Here is the Jing video of creating the new test script (WebTest Copy) from an existing one (WebTest), editing it and saving: http://screencast.com/t/HDFhJsoEJmP
I rebooted my computer, re-opened TestStudio. Here is the Jing video of examining the original and the new test script: http://www.screencast.com/t/GPhrh0TN
Note, after the reboot, the edits to "WebTest Copy" are missing.
The application log is attached.
Thanks!

I am still not able to reproduce this.
Could you please install that version of Test Studio and give that a try.
Meanwhile I will keep trying on reproducing the issue.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi, Boyan,
Just to make sure- I'm installing 2015.3.1429.1. Is that what you intended?
Briar
I installed 2015.3.1429.1. and still have the same problem. I discovered also that this situation occurs without rebooting, just editing the copied test script, saving it and then closing and re-opening TestStudio.
FYI,
Briar
I am sorry to hear that.
I will keep trying to reproduce this issue and will update this ticket accordingly.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Hi, Boyan,
Yesterday, I dropped back to the current release 2015.3.1314.0 and, of course, to do so, I had to uninstall the latest build 1429.1 and then install 1314.0. The fresh install seems to have corrected the problem.
Thanks for following up.

Happy to hear that.

Actually, the same behavior just occurred again, exactly as described above. For now, I can find ways to work around it. If I notice any more specific aspects of the behavior, I'll provide updates.
Thanks,

Hi, Deepa, my apologies for taking so long to answer your question.
I never did find a solution. Somewhere along the way, the problem cleared up. At first, I kept Windows File Explorer open so I could see if when a revised file failed to save. This kept me from assuming a successful save. Also, when I wanted to start from an existing script to create a new one, I started the practice of creating a new script file, then copying the contents of the existing script and pasting into the new. So the new script has a different create date and a different UniqueId ( a test script property) that Test Studio uses internally.
So, in short, I avoid using the script copy method (available on right-click on script name) or any copy/paste of script files.
Hope this helps!
Briar
We have reproduced this behavior and we have logged a bug report about this.
You can track it here.
I hope this will be fixed as soon as possible.
Thank you for your cooperation.
