Hello,
I am using Test Studio to test our webpage. Here's the scenario:
1) The user navigates to an URL
2) Logins and by entering their credentials
3) Selects a menu item from the drop-down menu when the user hovers over a menu item on the top bar menu.
4) A new tab opens up with the specified page in the same browser.
Knowing what I read, you want to avoid testing tabs, so open the specified page in a new window? Ok, that's fine but how do I get Test Studio to run the scripts in the new browser page? Should I proceed with or just create tests using tabs?
If that one was easy, how do I check the existence of a specified text in a drop-down menu? I tried using the recorder and the highlighter but I couldn't get it to work; the drop-down menu would disappear when using the highlighter.
Thank you
Peter

Just a followup to my previous post.
I referenced Test Studio's feature "Attach to Existing Instance" but it only seems to work with IE. The workaround I came up at this time is instead of selecting the menu item and opening a new tab, I have the current browser navigate to the specified page without selecting the menu item and opening a new tab. It's not ideal but it works.
Update 2:
With regards to the menu item from the , I used to the DOM Explorer to check for its existence so that works for now.
Thank you for contacting Telerik Support.
We are glad to hear you managed to find a workaround which works in your case. However, we would like to explain that once calibrated the browsers should record steps even when a new tab is opened but they behave differently. For example IE always opens a pop ups in new window by default while Chrome and Firefox are opening new tabs by default but steps are always recorded. So we suppose you are using either Chrome or Firefox browser and what we would like to verify is whether you are able to record steps in the new tab/window once it is opened in a recording session.
We assume that the main issue might be that the hover-over step is not being executed as you need to first add it manually as described in the shared article. Is the execution successful after adding such step?
Let us know if further assistance is needed. We are looking forward to hearing back from you.

Hi Vera,
Just to let you know, all my browsers were calibrated. I was on a WebEx today with Zachary Shuster (Telerik Sales) and Andy (Telerik support) and showed them my issues. Re-calibrating the Firefox browser did not work. There appears to an issue. They suggested to open up a ticket for this issue so I will. Thanks.
Thank you for letting us know about the WebEx meeting you had with our colleagues. We will continue the discussion on the other ticket as you requested.
We stay at your disposal if you need further assistance.
Regards,
Vera
