Ultimate VS Dev Edition

Test Studio Ultimate is a standalone tool which provides the full functionality for automation testing. You could download a 30 days trial to explore its full functionality. In case of any questions you will be also entitled to submit support tickets during the trial period. 

Test Studio Dev Edition is a plugin for Visual Studio and exposes the basic functionality of Test Studio to record and execute automation tests for web and wpf applications.

Sorry to interject on this question, but I too had a similar question. My company has a version of Test Studio Ultimate from 2016. Would it be best to change over to the Test Studio Dev Edition, or will we lose functionality or features if we go from Ultimate to Dev? From the sound of your answer it sounds like we should just upgrade our current Test Studio Ultimate; but from the look of the Test Studio Dev Edition page it looks like this might be a step up in functionality in Test Studio.

The Test Studio Dev Edition supports part of the functionalities of Test Studio Ultimate - the Web&Desktop Record&Execute features along with any coded steps. Since you have the full version of Test Studio I guess you are using its full functionalities or at least most of them and therefore will recommend you simply upgrade your current product.

One thing to point out is the TS Dev Edition is a per user license, while TS Ultimate is a floating license.

I'am already using Telerik Test Studio Ultimate (Product version: 2019.1.4.8.0 Licensed), want to enquire if we can use Dev Version too in our existing License?

Hi Sumit,

The Ultimate version of Test Studio includes also the plugin for Visual Studio. During the installation process all Visual Studio installations are automatically detected and the plugin is installed by default for the detected versions. 

However, you should know that the minimum requirement is to have VS Professional edition.

What I want to know is do we need to purchase Dev Ultimate License for performing unit test ? As already we have Test Studio Ultimate License with us. 

Does our license includes Dev Version also?

I have seen on Telerik website that Dev version comes with the purchase of DevCraft license. Dev version is per user based license and our Ultimate Test Studio is a floating license. So, can we use Dev version along with our Licensed Test Studio Ultimate?

Let me please share some further details for the Test Studio and Telerik productsand licensing, and hopefully this will help you sort out if you need to purchase anything in  addition. 

Test Studio Ultimate - ​this version includes Test Studio Standalone, Test Studio Mobile, Test Studio for APIs, Test Studio Dev Edition (which is basically the Visual Studio plugin), Load and Performance modules. 

Test Studio Web&Desktop - Test Studio Standalone, Test Studio Dev Edition (a.k.a. the Visual Studio plugin)

Test Studio Dev Edition - the Visual Studio plugin can be also installed on its own as part of the DevCraft Ultimate product bundle. 

Though, all of these products do use a per machine licensing which can be swapped between different machines as described here for Test Studio Standalone and here for the Test Studio Dev Edition. 

So, as far as I understand you do not need to buy additional licenses if you already have an Ultimate one.
