Hi, there,
I remember I have to reboot my local desktop for at three times while install TS Ultimate. Can you please let me know if I have to reboot my servers when I install the TS runtime edition? I have to give notice to the teams before I install the runtime on server in this case.

Thanks - Reno

Hello Reno,

Why do you have to reboot? Normally that is not necessary. You should be able to just install Test Studio then immediately start using it. The same is true of our Runtime edition.

Hi, Cody,
I rebooted my local three times while installing TS ultimate. I don't know the exact reason but the prompted installation progress bar showed me installing .NET framework. So I was forced to reboot my local along the TS ultimate edition installation process.

This time, I need to make sure I know the install procedure given this runtime edition will be installed on two application servers. So please let me know runtime edition installation will not involve machine reboot. Otherwise, I will need to schedule after hours installation to minimize the downtime impact to the teams.

Thanks,

Reno

Hello Jenny,

It is true that our installer will automatically install .NET version 4.5 if it's not present, but even that should not cause a reboot. It will also install SQL Express if it's not already installed and you elect to install the Storage Service (which requires SQL). I've never been prompted to reboot then either.

I recommend doing the install during normal business hours. If you get a prompt to reboot, take a screen shot and show it to me along with an explanation what part of the install just finished. Then ignore it i.e. choose "Reboot Later" and let the install finish.

Many times (during the install of other products) I've been prompted to reboot, ignored it, and find the product works perfectly w/o rebooting. This may be the same for your install of Test Studio... i.e. you're being prompted to reboot as a precaution when it's not really necessary.

Regards,
