I'm getting the following error every time I load any project in VS 2019 (16.9.4)

"Visual Studio stopped responding for 12 seconds.  Disabling the extension Progress Telerik WinForms Converter 2021.2.505.1 might help."

See attached image of error.

How to resolve?

Cheers, Rob.

EDIT: for any project, WPF, UWP, etc. (not just WinForms)

Hello Robin,

Thank you for contacting our support team.

We have addressed this issue to some degree and we try to improve the performance of our Extensions all the time. Unfortunately, there are different reasons for this behavior and we will appreciate it if you can share with us some more information on the matter so we can better understand the issue and act accordingly:

  • Generate Visual Studio Activity log file and send it to us. To do so follow the instructions marked in yellow at the bottom of this article.
  • Generate a memory dump file. Here are the steps:
    • Launch Visual Studio 2019.
    • Launch Windows Task Manager.
    • Find Microsoft Visual Studio application and expand it.
    • Reproduce the problem.
    • Right-click on Microsoft Visual Studio and click on Create dump file. Make sure that you click on Create dump file when Visual Studio is not responding!

Please, share the generated files via file sharing by your choice. Or you can use the share I've created(please include your name when naming the files) - https://bit.ly/3pghAAZ

In the meantime, you can safely disable the extension that is causing the hang and enable it if you need to use the extension. You can do that through Visual Studio menu Extensions -> Manage Extensions Installed tab.

Looking forward to your response.

This response makes no sense and isn't helpful.  How can I create a "Dump file" when VS 2019 is "not responding"???

I'm getting more than frustrated with Telerik controls ... renewal is unlikely to happen at this point.  It's like rolling the dice after each Telerik update on whether or not VS 2019 will work and my projects will compile.

Rob.

Hi Robin,

We are really sorry for the inconvenience caused. The performance issue with our extensions is something we are constantly trying to improve and we have planned more radical changes, that should highly improve this behavior,  that should take place with our next major release. Until then it helps us a lot if you can provide the dump file as we are gaining more information on the various issues that might cause the hang.

When performing the steps from my previous reply on the last step, you should open the Windows Task Manager and there right-click on Microsoft Visual Studio and click on Create dump file.

Please let us know if you have any other issues with our product that we can assist you with.

Regards,

Nikolay
